Madhuvan needs tools

Mayapurcandra Das - August 12, 2008 7:17 pm

We have milled exotic hardwoods from our property and I brought some tools with me when I came to Madhuvan, but I couldn't fit everything that's necessary for building good quality furniture etc.

We would like to build beds, desks, doors, windows and sink closets, but at the time we are running so low on money that we can't afford them. In the long run building our own furniture would save us a lot of money, but we just need a start-up to get going.

So here's an opportunity for seva: we would be very grateful if the community could help us purchase the necessary tools for this endeavor. Here are the prices of the tools we will need:

tablesaw: $250

sander: $150

jointer: $400

clamps: $50

chisels: $30

accessories(glue, hardware etc.): $130

total: $1010

Thank you!

I can send $500. How do I get it to you?

Syamasundara - August 12, 2008 9:59 pm

Wow, they seem to cost as much as in the U.S. No wonder they do everything by hand.

Vrindaranya Dasi - August 12, 2008 10:06 pm

The inverter has gone down at Madhuvan due to lightning (add $250 to the list for a new control panel :Broken Heart: ), so the Madhuvasis will be without power and mostly off-line until Babhru arrives there in a week.

Donations can be sent to Audarya or made through the website...hmmm...I can't seem to find the link to the form...I'll ask Shyam-gopala and post soon.

Many power tools there cost almost double, because it is such a small country so much is imported, and not in the huge quantities we see in USA

Syamasundara - August 13, 2008 9:43 pm

I wonder if it wouldn't be better to buy them here and load Babhru with them.

Babhru Das - August 13, 2008 10:16 pm

Do you know how much extra luggage costs these days? And on some airlines, that's the first bag. I had an overweight bag coming out here that cost me $75.

Syamasundara - August 13, 2008 10:22 pm

Yikes!

Guru-nistha Das - August 14, 2008 5:53 pm

Thanks so much Margaret!

We're anxious to get the project going so when Guru Maharaja comes here again, we will have more accommodations for visiting and resident devotees.

Only $530 left. Anyone?

Vrindaranya Dasi - August 14, 2008 6:16 pm

Plus $205 for the logic boards.

If you haven't already, I think it might be a good idea to look into installing some sort of lightning rod near the power shed to prevent the inverter from getting toasted again.

Babhru Das - August 14, 2008 7:02 pm

I second that. I was thinking about it the other day when I heard, but didn't say anything.

Grant Upson - August 14, 2008 10:05 pm

I donated $150 via the link.

Mayapurcandra Das - August 16, 2008 4:07 pm

Mayapurcandra Das - August 16, 2008 5:08 pm

great news, thank you Jason!!

We've made a movie about Self-Sufficiency here in Madhuvan. By donating for the project you are all part of making it happen.

here is a link to the movie Towards Self-Sufficiency. Unfortunately we couldn't post this on YouTube-so you have to download the video on your computer.

Hope you like it!

What do you mean not on youtube? That's where I saw it days ago and I even commented! :Praying:
