Books about Bhaktvinoda Thakur

Brian Peterson - October 16, 2008 9:32 pm

Hey everyone:

I am looking to learn more about Bhaktivinoda Thakur. I heard one of Swami Maharaja's lectures not too long ago and found his insights about Bhaktivinoda Thakur to be very interesting. I'm familiar with a lot of general information about him, but I'm looking for information (books, websites, etc) that give a well rounded and interesting perspective.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Brian

I suggest Hindu Encounter With Modernity, by Shukavak Das, as a good starting point.

There is also a book about Bhaktivinoda called Seventh Goswami. It's a long time since I read it, but I remember liking it.

This is a good book, but note that my "Sri Guru Paramapara" was written in objection to the final chapter at the request of others.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will look for both of those books.

Swami, I will take your suggestion into consideration when reading that one.

Come to think of it, does anyone have any other recommendations for broad minded biographical books about the lives of other Vaisnava saints/gurus?

Thanks! :(

Take care,

Brian

I'm not seeing Sri Guru Parampara in the web store right now -- but I'll lend you my copy.

It may be out of print now. Too bad. Perhaps we can make a downloadable pdf of it available.
