Tattva-viveka

the need for vaikuntha lila

Gaura-Vijaya Das - December 19, 2008 8:59 pm

I was talking to a person who came from a monistic background. I was just speaking about although reality is non-dual and complete non-duality can be experienced in the Brahman conception, brahman itself moves out of joy gives rise to variegated experience and we in GV want to experience this mood of Brahman-- brahman with its dynamism or shakti.

So I was explaining how krsna expresses himself as many and the many serve and taste a relationship with the one( their maker) in different ways for his fulfillment. But then he asked me that why there is a need for brahman's sristi lila and his expression in vaikuntha. When every rasa is present in goloka what is need for anything else. Then I just said that in sristi lila when one decides to become many, the many can feel what it means to voluntarily align their will with Absolute. The souls always in krsna's lila don't seem to get the feeling of voluntarily choosing his service so bhagavan actually likes the play of sristi lila as well. He wants to taste all varieties of sports which are possible. So that is why how I explained the existence vaikuntha. I said that vaikuntha is when one (brahman) wants to experience many in a mood of awe and reverence and all of these variety in lilas is the celebration of the joy of brahman . So ultimately there is no reason to the play.

Is the explanation alright or devotees here can help me with more?

The sristi-lila is manifest from Paramatma, not Vaikuntha per se. It is in relation to the world. Our explanation for the world is certainly more sound than that of the monsists, who say it really does not exist. Of course they also speak of sristi-lila.

But Vaikuntha and Goloka are very different. There is no awe and reverence in Goloka. Thus the need for Vaikuntha.

But brahman's stillness is between the movement of paramatma and movement of bhagavan like you explained GM. I was explaining the celebration of joy of brahman both in paramatma's sristi lila and bhagavan's lila whether in Vaikuntha and Goloka.

I was not going into details about the distinctions but getting around to explain everything around non-dual consciousness(advaya jnana tattva). Anything more I can add?

Srsti-lila is a combination of Paramatma's desire to save the fallen souls and the desire of the jivas to exercise their free will in relation to matter. Without the world there is no avenue for the baddha jivas to do this, and without the baddha jivas there is no one to save from samsara.

Also paramatma has to do so with help from narayana and krsna not alone. And it is the baddha jiva with whom God can feel that they have voluntarily made the choice of serving him. With nitya siddhas krsna or narayana don't get the feeling as they always have been serving them.
