Tattva-viveka

General Harmonist

Nitaisundara Das - April 5, 2009 2:48 am

I spoke with Guru Maharaja and considering that we are unclear when exactly the Harmonist will launch, we are thinking it best to focus on "timeless" content right now, as time-sensitive content may be outdated by the time we are on line. That does not mean no book or movie reviews, but some books lend themselves more to being reviewed even if they are old. GM had Brighu do one of Smith's book from the other thread for example, even though much of it is 20+ years old. So books and movies with more timeless content are probably best for now, or books with some focal point that will remain relevant, such as a philosophical idea. In addition to simple reviews we could write articles that base off of books and quote from them. I am trying to do that some with an old psychology book "The Road Less Traveled", because I think the points made there are still very relevant. As the launch date draws nearer we can go ahead and get more into time sensitive content. Things are a bit unclear now but everything will develop soon enough. Jaya Brhat Mrdunga Seva!

An old friend of mine, Jamad-agni, called me on the phone the other day. He has been going to Harvard for several years trying to complete a masters in divinity at Harvard divinity school. I directed him to the harmonist site and he immediately started writing comments. It was really gratifying to me to see his great appreciation for the site. His comment as follows:

Jaya Maharaja and everyone who has spoken to some the points I raised!! For several years I have been in desperate need of a community where I can really push difficult questions. While I am somewhat disappointed that this, for me, is likely to remain an online forum rather than a temple room environment, it is great solace to know that an intellectually rigorous discussion can take place among devotees and I can participate.

Obeisances and All Glories to Vaisnavas and Srila Prabhupada!

Is this actually our old friend Jamadagni, the astrologer? I didn't see any indication on his Web site that he was working on adding a Harvard diviinity degree to his CV.

Then it is a very positive sign as more of SP's own disciples are wanting to listen to your presentation.

Oh, then maybe he is another devotee initiated by someone else. Atmananda?

He received diksa from Bhakti Tirtha Swami. We met in New Vrindavan.

For a time this part of TV helped source new content for the Harmonist. I hope that it can serve such a valuable function once more.

On facebook many articles of great interest are "shared" by members of the sanga (and, of course, by others), but due to the design of the site those links are almost immediately buried by new posts. Perhaps I speak only for myself, but the distracting nature of facebook makes me less inclined to click-through to articles, what to speak of read them attentively.

When you share an article on facebook, it would be great if you could also post the link here under the relevant sub-topic (reviews, science, psychology, etc.) That way the article can easily be considered for publication.

The Harmonist represents an important aspect of the sanga's outreach, mood, and maturity. The site will be enhanced by your contributions, which can also include original writing. Such submissions may be sent to editor@harmonist.us

Great thought, Gopal.
