Five types of liberation

Shyamananda Das - July 30, 2009 2:11 pm

Hare Krsna,

I have a question about the five types of liberation:

· sarupya (obtaining the same form as Bhagavan)

· samipya (living in close proximity to Bhagavan)

· salokya (living on the same planet as Bhagavan)

· sarsti (having the same opulence as Bhagavan)

· sayujya (becoming one with Sri Bhagavan either by merging into His body or by merging into His brahma effulgence).

I have read that bhaktas reject these, especially the last one of course. The first and the fourth are also understandable. But why the second and the third? How are they not in line with vraja bhakti?

For service they accept them, but they do not desire them unto themselves because such desires would get in the way of the priti they desire. So desiring them is the issue. But if you desire and attain priti then surely you will live on Krsna's planet. But then again, not on Narayana's planet which these muktis as sadhyas usually refer to. Our sadhya is priti or prema.
