New calendar, anyone?

Syamasundara - March 10, 2010 2:33 am

Tomorrow we'll observe Ekadasi as per the Iskcon calendar. We went on the download page of swami.org and the audarya/madhuvan calendar for this year doesn't seem up yet. Did we miss some post about it? Is it not happening this year, or it's still in the make?

Thanks.

Atmananda would have the answer on this. I know he and Rasikananda were working on it but may have run into a few snags because of the outdating of the vcal program we used to use. Ask him.

Babhru Das - March 10, 2010 6:34 pm

I just saw a note from Dravida saying that the new program, called GCal, is available at http://www.krishnadays.com.

Vamsidhari Dasa - March 11, 2010 6:50 pm

please keep up posted on the calendar I feel a bit lost in space without it. thanks.

Atmananda Dasa - March 12, 2010 7:32 pm

Sorry for the delay prabhus. The calendar is delayed this year because of technical issues related to the computer programs that we use for calculating. We are working on this years calendar and making preparations which will allow for future calendars to be produced more easily and thus be ready well in advance of the new year. Again we apologize for the delay. As soon as I have an estimated release date I will post it hear on TV. YS Atmananda das

Great! Thanks a lot for doing this service for the sanga, Atmananda and Rasikananda!

I want to do that too! Is there a way to do it automatically?

Here is a link to iskcon's ical files "Using the authorized GBC Vaisnava Calendar Committee Calculations". :)

I've read various controversies over how these calculations have been done; don't really know what to think of that, but we've had no choice but to use their program in the past and have added and subtracted dates according to our sanga.

I'm not cool enough to use a mac, so I couldn't tell you if these will work, but you could be partially celestially oriented with these files until the NC ananda brothers (Rasik and Atma) add the dates that will complete your universal placement.

dates you can add yourself to your calendar if you have it on your computer:

-amavasya (new moon) in August - tirobhava of Pujyapada B.R. Sridhar-Dev Goswami Maharaj

-navami (9th day) at the end of October - avirbhava of Pujyapada B.R. Sridhar-Dev Goswami Maharaj

- GM's sannyasa anniversary (1975) - Rama-navami (end of March)

Gaurasundara Das - March 14, 2010 1:13 pm

One thing I noticed on the old calandar was that Srila Prabhupada's avirbhava and tirobhava were marked with "fast till noon" but Srila Sridhara Maharaja's didn't have any instructions to fast. Should we fast on these days?

Thank you now I feel much more oriented.

As for the ISKCON calendar link I do not understand it at all or how I would sync it with my iCal.

I am cool enough to have a Mac but not really smart enough to use it especially when it come to some interface/interfaith stuff.

I will wait patiently for newest celestial calculations.

Thanks.

You should fast all day and we will fast till noon.

:rolleyes::LMAO:

Yeah, sorry if that was missed on the previous calendars Gaurasundara. Srila Sridhar Maharaj's days are fast till noon like other similar days.

an ical cal should download as a .ics file. Open Ical and go File>Import> then find your ics file and select it. Voila, it should place the dates everywhere.
