The heart of morality lies in increasing the tendency to serve others or give to others and decrease the tendency to exploit others or take from others. Ideal example to emulate is that of a tree which gives away twigs, fruits, flowers, wood and shade everything to serve others. I think of morality like this rather than a rigid code of rules. But then this is hardest to practice.

Yes, in psychology we consider this the move from narcissism (others exist for my benefit) to relatedness (others exist on their own behalf, and they have needs that I can also care for). It marks a significant shift in one's way of being in the world.
