Tattva-viveka

New website

Vrindaranya Dasi - October 1, 2010 1:34 pm

I'm developing a website with audio recordings of Guru Maharaja's lectures, Sangas, video, news, books, etc. It will be a place where you can keep up to date on what Guru Maharaja is doing and talking about. It isn't finished yet, but it would be nice to get some comments on the site before it is officially launched. Here is the url: http://swamitripurari.com. Thanks!

Braja-sundari Dasi - October 1, 2010 3:43 pm

Thank you Vrindaranya for your incredible seva! :excl::Cry:B)

I guess all of us dreamed of such wonderful space where we could have access to everything Guru Maharaj said or wrote. We are inebted to you for ever. It`s the fruit of many months (years) of work and will probably take long time to complete and considering how much other work you have to do, it`s a miracle.

Being now far away I was so happy to open the web and hear Guru Maharaja`s latest classes. :)

Her websites are actually very very high quality. I don't know much about websites but my devotee friend who has a PhD in Computer Science said the website is of highest quality. Any praise for her is not sufficient!!

Babhru Das - October 1, 2010 5:24 pm

I haven't explored as much as I'd like, but what I've seen so far looks really great. Having audio files on the site is wonderful. I think it's fair to say that we all are more grateful to Vrindaranya than we could express in lifetimes.

Babhru Das - October 1, 2010 5:44 pm

The more I poke around the site, the better I like it. The design and content are really something. That takes me back to the sentiment at the end of my previous post. It occurs to me there is a way to begin expressing my gratitude. What can I do to help?

Bijaya Kumara Das - October 1, 2010 8:15 pm

Yes all glories to you.

The only thing I would suggest is a link section to other approved sites.

Thank you so much.

Tadiya Dasi - October 2, 2010 5:58 am

You have done great work (and service for all of us) here, Vrindaranya! Thank you. :)

Vrindaranya Dasi - October 2, 2010 5:02 pm

Thanks, everyone! May Guru Maharaja's glories be spread throughout the three worlds!

Babhru, you asked if there was anything you could do to help. At this point, it would be great to get some comments on the site.

A small correction :)

After the passing of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Srila Bhakti Raksaka Sridhara Deva Goswami preserved the purity of our lineage and fostered its growth in the hearts of a number of his and Sri Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada’s disciples. (, instead of full stop)

Sri Tridandi Swami Bhaktivedanta Tripurari

Babhru Das - October 2, 2010 5:25 pm

No, the periond is the correct punctuation there. It looks as if the "Sri Tridandi Swami . . . " was originally meant as a heading. However since there are no others, it was seen as unnecessary but hasn't been deleted yet.

Vrinda: I'm on it. Can I post them now?

Gaura-Vijaya Das - October 2, 2010 5:43 pm

Yes, my mistake. It should be a heading, so it needs to be in bold I guess.

Babhru Das - October 2, 2010 7:01 pm

I believe it should be deleted because there are no other headings.

Hari Bhakti - October 2, 2010 8:06 pm

Vrindaranya,

What an amazing service to Guru Maharaja. There are so many people, including myself who will benefit from this site. The site itself is beautiful and the content even more so. Thank you.

I noticed on my browser ie7 the newsbox homepage 05 teachings has the Read More link to the right of the text instead of below like the others.

Jaya Sri Gurudev!

Syamasundara - October 2, 2010 9:28 pm

Jay! What a gold mine. We're happy, we're proud, we're glad.

Shouldn't there be some kind of reference to cowdust.us and/or the Harmonist?

Btw, if the site now is for us to make internal comments I wouldn't announce it on Facebook just yet. I saw it happen twice already.

Babhru Das - October 2, 2010 9:49 pm

Oh, if anyone is putting links to it on Facebook, I'd suggest that they delete them immediately, at least until it's ready to launch.

I agree with Syamu that a space for external links--to swami.org (where our store is), The Harmonist, and cowdust.us (which I find is back online)--might be useful.

Gopesh Dasa - October 3, 2010 6:49 am

I do apologize, my fault !!!

Bhrigu - October 4, 2010 6:43 am

I didn't see the website until today, but I must say that I am impressed! Not surprised, though: your work with the Harmonist and Audarya Dairy made me expect something of this quality. Great seva! ;)

Where the "Sri Tridandi Swami" heading? I couldn't locate it.

Yes, you can post comments now, although I'm working on resolving a problem with the comments showing up in the recent comments side bar but not in the article.

Here at the bottom we have Sri Tridandi Swami.

Vrindaranya Dasi - October 4, 2010 4:50 pm

Thanks, I fixed it.

Caitanya-daya Dd - October 5, 2010 1:00 am

This is really beautiful, Vrindaranya. My only suggestion as of now is that the introductory slideshow run a little slower, it seems to whisk in a speed too quickly. And possibly there is a way to loop back to frame one without having to go backwards through five, four, three, and two?

Other than that, stunning!

Syamasundara - October 13, 2010 4:09 pm

One problem we find over here with our slow connection is that the audio player could be a little more dynamic. Sometimes I'll be 50 minutes into the class and it stops, says buffering.... and stays like this; so I've been trying to listen to the Janmastami classes, but I keep listening to the beginning of many classes, or the biggest part at least, but I keep missing the end, and the problem I want to flag is that they can only be played from the beginning.

I guess it would be helpful to have a fast forward feature or a way to play from any point.

Braja-sundari Dasi - October 13, 2010 7:08 pm

Download option would be helpful for people with slow connections or having no internet at home.

I thought that at first too, but it's not true. You can pause the player anywhere in the talk and start it again in the same place. Look moe closely at the palyer and you should be able to figure it out.

Vrindaranya is working on the download feature.

Gaura-Vijaya Das - October 13, 2010 10:03 pm

Whatever Vrinda is doing is very challenging already. It looks very easy to say these things, but I know how hard it is to get things to work.

Got it, when the arrow becomes a finger it moves it forward every time I click.

Syamasundara - October 15, 2010 10:29 pm

Another minor thing: the Nrsimha 14th 2007 lecture 2 pt 2 should be on top of lecture 2 pt 1.

Also, I wonder if the 2008 stuff is going to go up. Inauguration, Ratha Yatra, etc.

Gaurasundara Das - October 16, 2010 3:32 pm

I really like the Harmonist Highlights section. Great feature!

Guru Maharaj's response to Paul on august 2 was a brilliant explanation of guru tattva and the problems with ritvikvad.

It would make a good hightlight.

Great website. It is such a valuable resource. A million thanks

Gopakumara Das - October 19, 2010 6:09 pm

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this website! I am going to do whatever I can to have people see it. A few thoughts:

1. The audio interface, where the categories (Contemporary Talks, Festivals, etc.) is not quite as lovely as the other interfaces. Maybe make it match the page a bit more?

2. People from many different countries are viewing the page. Can we:

A. Put a translator tool on?

B. Put up any lectures being translated simultaneously into Spanish, Finish, Polish etc.? and label them as such?

C. Can we post any books and articles being translated into other languages, even if they are in the works, so people can

begin to read?

Thanks!

Gopa

Google Translate may be a good start:

http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=e...mitripurari.com

Syamasundara, is that an accurate translation?

Gopakumara Das - October 20, 2010 1:00 am

Vrindaranya, is it ok to send visitors there yet? If its not tell me ASAP and I will stop getting the news out...

Syamasundara - October 20, 2010 11:09 pm
Google Translate may be a good start:

http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=e...mitripurari.com

Syamasundara, is that an accurate translation?

Unfortunately as accurate as it gets. It might be taken as a bonus feature, but I am afraid, people would just think a)we have a stinky team of translators, or  we are so clueless that we rely on an automated translator without even knowing what the heck it is really saying. It would be a shame to have people be disenfranchised in the page for whatever reason; but maybe, if we make it sure that the translator feature has nothing to do with us... I don't know.

Nitaisundara Das - October 21, 2010 4:34 pm

I think use of automated translators is quite common. and generally it is clear if that is what the translation is because the page will allow you to turn it on or off. There must be Wordpress plugins like babelfish that will display a variety of language options and it would be clear to the reader that it is automated and therefore has errors.

Braja-sundari Dasi - October 21, 2010 5:22 pm

I don`t know how it works for other languages but never try it in Polish. Result is almost always horrible.

Braja-sundari Dasi - October 22, 2010 2:16 pm

Download is working now! :) Thank you Vrindaranya! My koti pranams!

Vrindaranya Dasi - October 22, 2010 2:31 pm

Website update: I've been having trouble finding time to work on the site, but yesterday I cleared some cow/cleaning seva from my schedule and made some progress. I finally figured out how to do a "force download" rather than the more cumbersome right-click method. You can check out the three latest audio files to see the functionality. It will take a while to add the code to the rest of the audio files.

The search function is currently not working correctly and is proving difficult to fix.

Replacing the ugly "more" button, styling the audio download page, and adding Guru Maharaja and Agnideva bhajans are on the list of things to do.

Completing the pdfs for the rest of the books is still on the to-do list. The books are in an out-of-date format and will have to be completely redone, and it is taking longer than I hoped.

As for different languages, perhaps we should consider having Spanish and Polish versions of the site. It would take a lot of work, but I think that it would generate enough interest to warrant it. With Abhay, Satananda, and Audarya-lila moving to Madhuvan soon, perhaps Shyam and Braja-sundari could take up the translations?

Braja-sundari Dasi - October 22, 2010 3:26 pm

I would love to do it! And maybe someone from Poland could help as well.

Gaurasundara Das - October 22, 2010 7:14 pm

Great! Thanks for the download feature.

Madan Gopal Das - October 22, 2010 7:59 pm

I was wondering if there might be something more noticeable, maybe in the "about" section, that GM's mission is Sri Caitanya Sanga. It is there in a couple sentences in "our lineage", and other "about" parts talk about Madhuvan and Audarya, but I don't know if people get the sense that he has a mission, or what it is called, something that they can identify his students with... Also, maybe the contacts page from swami.org can be reproduced so that people might find students/gatherings local to them? Just some thoughts...

Syamasundara - October 22, 2010 9:51 pm

How officially "up" is the site? I see it listed among the links in the Harmonist, but it hasn't been announced on the Harmonist or the the Sanga mailing list, like it happened with cowdust.us for example.

When can we tell the world (=Facebook)?

Vrindaranya Dasi - October 22, 2010 11:04 pm

I'm going to officially announce the site when I get my to-do list finished.

Madan, I'm planning to put links to other sites up. I'll also talk to Guru Maharaja about your other suggestions.

Vrindaranya just set up Priya-narma to work on the coding for the download functionality this afternoon, and she has already done 11 more, and is doing more as I type this. Download away and soak up the nectar! :)

Braja-sundari Dasi - October 25, 2010 8:38 pm

I don`t know e-mail to Priya -narma so this time I will post it here- download under the brihad bhagavatamrita vs6-7 class shows 404 error- file not found. It works for other verses (at least the ones I was downloading this way)

Syamasundara - November 15, 2010 10:30 pm

Vrindaranya is working on the download feature.

With the youtube videos when we lose the connection half way through a video, we can reload the page and click on the minute where we got offline and it will resume from there. It would be really cool if it was possible with the audios. The download feature is great, but I listen to the audios while dressing the deities, for example, and last time I clicked download it told me 3 hours 12 minutes, because of the connection we have, whereas if I click listen I can listen while dressing as it downloads. The only problem is when it gets stuck and there is no other way than to reload it from the beginning.

Also the page seems to retain some memory. I've been trying to listen to the Baltimore pre-talk in Contemporary Preaching all day.

Our cell phone-modem will get offline randomly, I have to reload the talk, and it won't start. It either says connecting or buffering. If I start another talk, it will, and if I start the same talk in another browser it also will download!

Anyway, hopefully with a higher speed soon we won't have any of these problems. Just giving feedback on how the page behaves.

Gaura-sakti has a nice video on youtube of GM leading kirtan at ratha-yatra:

That was a wonderful day in 2003. I think Vamsi Dhari met Gurumaharaja that day or was that the year before? And unless I am collapsing those few years together, GM was asked by the administration to lead the first artika for their lordships when they arrived at Kurukshetra. That was extremely powerful to watch. Jaganatha was awestruck at the sight of the Vraja vasis and there was truly no one more suitable to console him than our gurudeva.

Syamasundara - January 15, 2011 3:21 am

Just for the sake of being absorbed in the lila, the Ratha Yatra is the enactment, in one of the versions given, of the Vrajavasis dragging Krsna back to Vrndavana from Kuruksetra; so technically where the parade ends it's Vrndavana. Or at least Gundicha :Just Kidding:

Braja, I took a look at the PHP and could not figure out what the problem was. The code is the same for those links that work and those that do not.

Until we can figure something out, you can access the MP3 like this:

On this page:

http://swamitripurari.com/2009/04/best-of-yogis/

if you right-click on the download link you'll see this address:

http://swamitripurari.com/download/04_24_2009.php

You can copy and paste that address and edit to:

http://swamitripurari.com/MP3_CDSUB/04_24_2009.mp3

Note that the name of the PHP file is very similar to the MP3 link.

Let me know if that helps.

Braja-sundari Dasi - September 18, 2012 3:48 pm

Doesn`t work. I tried that with one file on 2 browsers. And this is the result:

  • I'm sorry, but the page or file appears to be missing!

You may not be able to find the page or file because of:
    1. An out-of-date bookmark/favorite.
    2. A failed search from the searchbar (try another search query).
    3. A search engine that has an out-of-date listing for this site.
    4. A mis-typed address.

Dandavats Braja and Gauravani,

And sorry for not reacting to this topic earlier. To be honest I haven't been on TV in ages.

I will look into the problem asap since it's my service.

Thanks for informing me about the problem and in the future you can write about this kind of stuff directly to me since I'm more likely to catch it then.

Gauravani Dasa - October 30, 2012 12:03 pm

Braja,

I think we fixed the problem. Try again and let us know if it works for you.

Gopala Dasa - February 18, 2013 3:40 pm

Gauravani, you might have an explanation for this. For a number of months it has been possible to stream lectures directly to iPhone from swamitripurari.com. There's been an imbedded progress bar that appears for each lecture, allowing you to pause, skip around, etc. I think over the past couple of days that functionality has disappeared. You can still launch lectures, but they open in a new Safari window and play (in Quicktime) for only a few minutes. I'm running the latest apple software, release 6.1.1

Gopal, yes, I installed some updates over the weekend but forgot to fix the audio player plugin. Sorry! Madan emailed me to tell me about it as well! I will have it fixed by the end of the day.
