I liked this article, Garuavani. Thanks.

Prema-bhakti - March 12, 2011 2:40 pm

Really nice. A few of my FB friends read it and really appreciated it.

Braja-sundari Dasi - March 12, 2011 7:51 pm

And some of my friends shared it as well.

As did Urmila, and I think she has many many friends. It was a nice article. I am surprised an introvert like yourself went for it! :Applause:

Dana pitched the idea and scheduled the interview. I just showed up! :D

You'll notice that Dana's history is detailed in the article while I was purposely vague to avoid any connection with Iskcon. Like I told Madan, my goal was to get GM's name in print. I was also able to "ride the wave" of interest and send out an invitation for GM's visit to NC to several interfaith people. Several confirmed.

In hindsight, I wish I'd talked about the cows at Audarya :Applause:

Although Dawn (the reporter) did not write about it, we had a short discussion on the nature of the guru-disciple relationship. I'm starting to wonder if it would make a good public topic for GM's visit. It seems that many traditions struggle with the idea, especially if the position was abused at some point.

My wife and I also read and liked the article. I thought it was a nice photograph of the two of you.

I think the topic of guru-disciple relationship would make a very good public topic. One day one of my wife's friends was over at the house and she asked me what the Hare Krishnas thought about homosexuality. She had heard from another friend that the Hare Krishna scriptures taught against it. I replied that I didn't know of hardly any mention of homosexuality in our scriptures. I told her that we all have different types of attachments in this world and that in our tradition, rather than a one size fits all approach, we work with a personal guide who helps us work with our own personal attachments, whatever they may be, and make progress accordingly. She really appreciated this idea of having a personal guide and also the idea that the guide would give each person a personalized way to approach spirituality. She told me she wished that Baptists did that because she had a nephew that was gay and his family gave him a lot of trouble because of it.

Def. picked up on that. Well executed. I think the guru disciple relationship is a huge issue in the modern day in our individualistic culture. Gopal's article on Harmonist was great on this topic.
