Is sex sport?

Devyah-pati Das SERBIA - June 15, 2011 2:01 pm

According to Krsna, one can become a yogi if he is regulated

in eating, sleeping, work and recreation (sport we can say).

My question is: Can sex be called sport in Kali yuga?

Of course, we know that it is in the best way used for progenitory

purposes for begeting good children, in the case of householder

brahmacaris, who use it only for procreation.

Sex is very, if not the most, binding force and activity,

and we all know that. If one is indulging in it, it leaves

deep efect on the person.

Yet, since people and devotees in general (realistically speaking)

are not on the level of withdrawing from it, or even practicing it

regulatedly as it is supposed to be used (even if it is with their

own partner only), can we put in in the category of the recreation,

relaxation or sport, so to say?

I would say it's a full-contact martial arts where you get hurt easily. :)

I was hoping we'd get a good joke or two out of this... Yes, sex is a sport. It's like running across the desert chasing a mirage! - Madan Gopal das brahmacari :)

The male league tends to be a lot more competitive...

I think we have a language barrier here Devyah-pati, but if I understand correctly, you were asking if sex could be considered recreational activity which a yogi would be regulated in according to the gita verse. Well, I'm sure you've heard GM speak on regulated sex at initiation classes. So one form of regulation is in monogamy. As for regulation within monogamy, there seems to be quite a bit of evidence in psychology and medicine these days that a healthy sex life can be beneficial in some ways, help with depression and even physical health (there's your sports :) ). These modern ideas may be contrary to what we've been taught by the hindu celibate traditions, but the verse you are referencing is speaking about moderation, which I would argue is valuable in all spheres of life.

:). No, it is all right, I understand what you are telling me. I asked

the question purposefully with these words that I used (sport, etc). :)

You know what, the thing that I like the most in answers of GM disciples

to my, sometimes even stupid or provocative questions is that you all

are cool, showing sense of humor and level of maturity in spiritual standing.

Years ago, in Iskcon one would be most probably thrown out of the temple room

if he asked such a question during the lecture.

Thank you all for your patience with me. :Batting Eyelashes: Your mercy has no limits.
