Tattva-viveka

getting to know members

Panchatattva - September 28, 2004 1:20 am

Hari bol and obeisances to all the wonderful Vaisnavas!

I'm new on this forum and have been reading on many of the different threads trying to catch up and understand the mood of this site. I appreciate so many of the topics, and have learned so much already.

There is one thing I'd love to see more of, and that is some kind of biography by the devotees. I would like to get to know the devotees on some personal level. I would love to hear what drew you to Swami Tripurari, and what inspires you the most about him. I'll feel like I know everyone better with some history and personal facts.

If this isn't really something the devotees are interested in, or it's too private, that's fine. I still get a lot out of all the great topics.

Respects,

Pancha Tattva dasi

Swami - September 28, 2004 1:29 am

In this regard it would be helpful to all concerned for members to write something about themselves in the personal profile section. I think that there is plenty of room there to write a short bio, etc.

Swami - September 28, 2004 1:44 am

I just filled out my own member profile using the "Your Interests" section for bio data. As a matter of principle I never ask anyone to do something that I am unwilling to do myself.

Nanda-tanuja Dasa - September 28, 2004 2:52 am

A personal photo would be great as well -- sometimes it’s very difficult to match a face with a name on the board.

Caitanya-daya Dd - September 28, 2004 1:52 pm

On the instruction of guru, I have submitted a short bio of sorts in my profile. No picture of me (sorry Nanda-tanuja prabhu!), but everyone knows i'm Asian and that i have a lot of tattoos.

Swami - September 28, 2004 2:03 pm

I think what Caitanya-daya has written in her profile is the kind of information others should add to their profiles. This is exactly what I had in mind.

Babhru Das - September 28, 2004 3:39 pm

It occurred to me that Caitanya-daya could copy this picture of herself on the East Coast visit thread.

I have added some bio data to my profile as requested.

Madangopal - September 28, 2004 5:44 pm

I am married to Pancha Tattva who started this thread. We are kind of socialites and we're happy to see the responses. It is really nice to feel a sense of community in cyber-space. I have updated my profile also.

Gopakumardas - September 28, 2004 7:42 pm

I added mine too.

Dayal Govinda Dasa - September 28, 2004 10:39 pm

Just added my Bio too. it's a little long, sorry.

Couldn't post a pic as my personal photo (for some reason) so I'll put it here until I can:

All together now, ahhh…

I just followed suit.

Have no picture, though -- cute or otherwise. (Do luv that shot, Dayal Govinda.)

Mathura-natha Das - September 29, 2004 8:19 am

Dandavats!

I added some details into my portfolio :D

Rama-priya - September 29, 2004 4:05 pm

I also fill my profile, I don't put photo, because now I don't have, I'm sorry.

Pranams

I am only today placing my note about myself because my situation was not clear for some time and only now does my story have an end. Maybe some of you have noticed that suddenly Rasananda dasa disappeared and Gaura-sakti dasa appeared. That is a very happy moment in my life...and I can finally tell my story in short.

Gaura-sakti dasa

Congratulations Gaura Sakti!!.

I sincerely apologise for posting my profile so late inspite of being asked to do by Maharaja sometime back.

Pls excuse me if its little lengthy.

Nice picture, but where are the neck beads? :)

Narada-kunda Dasi - December 2, 2004 4:46 pm

Though I feel insignificant, I wrote something in the personal profile area -- encouraged by the example of others, prompted by Swami's request, and out of respect for Krishna, as He says "I am the life of all that lives". So He is my life, too, though for me this was the last place I would look. It was easy to see Him in others, but hard to see Him within myself. I always felt abandoned and neglected by Him, but He has been so merciful that I can no longer maintain that conviction. Now I see that I was simply blinded by my limited understanding and expectations and this prevented me from appreciating His divine guidance.

As Rasikananda, a vaishnava saint, said: "In the hands of the initiated, all things turn to nectar"...

Karnamrita Das - December 3, 2004 1:14 am

Thanks Narada-kunda for sharing your story. Life is difficult, but we are fortunate to find the real solution by Krsna consciousness and associating with someone like Swami who embodies it.

I have updated my bio with some more personal stuff about my journey toward wholeness, and have included a picture of my wife and I so you can attach a form to my occational ramblings when I post.

Hopefully what I went through might be useful for younger devotees--or even older ones who may be still working on finding themselves, but then you have Swami to ask many things. Mature older devotees can also help. I sort of had to figure out things as I went along which we all have to do with different areas of our lives.

As devotees we can all try to help each other in our difficulties and stages of development, both material and spiritual. It is important to talk about what we are going through with others to seek support and to understand that we are not alone in our struggles. It is amazing how often devotees think they are the only one with a certain problem. Certain problems or attachments are universal.

I think understanding the natural developments in our body and mind as we age is very important for remaining fixed in our spiritual practices for the long haul. We have seen many "shooting stars" in the past.

Narada-kunda Dasi - December 3, 2004 5:57 pm

The things you wrote are also what I feel. We all go through the same experiences inside, leading to the same insights, though the external circumstances vary. I've been reading the discussions that were going on before I joined this forum, and it's really amazing how the topics and the opinions reflect my inner world. Like a mini vision of the universal form given to Arjuna, it is indeed "everything you ever wanted to know in one place" :)

Thank you for your sort of informal welcome. It's important to feel accepted by the members, and your acknowledgment fulfilled this psychological need...

If I recall correctly, in another section of the forum (about monastic dress), you recently expressed your desire to stay with ISKCON and see how you can help the devotees there. Please share the nature of your inner impetus for this. I kind of hang out with ISKCON friends and occasionally go to the SF, but the weight of "institutionalized aparadha" in the atmosphere as well as the patriarchal, egoistic and bigoted dealings throughout the years (and their adoption by each new generation of converts) seem to have discouraged me to the point of really seeing it as a "lost cause". My heart has been so pained by all this. Due to a lack of alternative in my present living conditions, foregoing this association has meant being entirely left to my own company, at least physically.

Maybe one day when I fully heal by the mercy of like-minded, affectionate devotees, I can be strong enough to give some input in ISKCON without being affected by the harsh and dry dealings. But for now it's a matter of survival. I have had some nice experiences as well, but as time goes by, despite all my efforts and hopes, the only conclusion I can come to is that it will remain always at the level it's on -- giving ground training and philosophy in exchange for one's life force, en masse.

Narada-kunda Dasi - December 3, 2004 6:11 pm

I just read your biography and I really appreciate what you wrote basically about keeping the bhakti-lata fenced in even after the time comes to let it freely develop. The stuff on coming back to the "outside world" to deal with our karma and resolve it once and for all I can also relate to. Sometimes I wonder if this puts me in the category of karma-yogi?

I love discussing healing topics and personal growth, near death experiences, and Krsna consciousness. In my book they all go well together

I'm in this vein too. I guess more encouragement from Krishna to let me know I'm at home...

Babhru Das - December 3, 2004 8:25 pm
The things you wrote are also what I feel. . . . it's really amazing how the topics and the opinions reflect my inner world.

Narada-kunda, this really struck a chord in my own heart. My experience with Swami in the '90s was like this. As I read what he wrote, first in the Gaudiya magazine, and then othe places, it was as though someone was shining a light on conclusions I had reached over the years and saying, "Good--keep going!" And when I met with him in the summer of '99, I was a little shocked in some ways. When I knew him in LA in 1973, he was so focused on his service of distributing Srila Prabhupada's books that he seemed a little distant to some of us who weren't good at that service. That wasn't his mood, because I found on several occasions that he deeply appreciated others' service, and he was always, always easy to get along with. But in '99, I found him open, warm, funny, and, most of all, established in just the sort of consciousness I aspired for. I knew then that I had a future in Krishna consciousness. I kept a close relationship with ISKCON the entire time I was in California, partly out of a sense of duty (Srila Prabhupada personally asked me in 1973 not to leave ISKCON), partly out of a hope that I may have been able to influence the way the culture there develops. I still haven't burned all my bridges to ISKCON and maintain friendship with many who continue to serve that institution. But it has changed so much that I can see that my home is here. I have a lot of respect for devotees like Karnamrita and Archana-siddhi, who continue to work within ISKCON and are no doubt planting Audarya memes there, as we see by the number of members here who attribute their association with Swami to them.

Karnamrita Das - December 3, 2004 10:40 pm

Narada-kunda Prabhu: I am glad you feel welcomed here in the cyber heart of Audarya, where we come together with our common though unique experiences of need and pain, and finding shelter in the insights, sanity and love of Swami. and those he has collected up.

It pains me to hear your experiences in ISKCON in SF and maybe Berkeley as well. Funny how it can be so stuck when it was once the cutting edge. Something so dynamic and revolutionary has become so stagnant and predictable. I suppose I am not as sensitive to the issues you are confronting. I have other focuses and our focus leads us, and another thing has to do with the devotees I hang out with-- though not affiliated with Swami are the cream of the cream, very balanced, caring, loving, and dedicated to changing the culture of ISKCON. It may not be possible, but as long as I can work with such wonderful devotees I will continue. And then there are the organizations like Children of Krishna, and the ISKCON Child Protection Office in which we intermingle and cooperate with to help and serve the second generation of devotees.

I am involved with the Grihastha Vision Team which is a grass roots group of devotees working to create services and support for the married couples and those wishing to marry. It may be too old school for you and not progressive enough, but for ISKCON it is very progressive, and is long over due. At least it is a beginning. We are training mentor couples to act as lay therapists and advocates for marriages and women, children and balanced men (we hope). It is long overdue and very important. You can check out our website at www.vaisnavafamilyresources.org. I welcome any devotees suggestions. I do have my limitations obviously since the target audience is ISKCON, but I am trying to make it available for all Gaudiya Vaishnavas, and anyone who is interested in a spiritual marriage.

I have to admit that part of me feels like I am being punished by karma or my many anarthas that I can't live near Swami and have more of his association. Yet, by Divine kindess, and Swami's mercy he comes out to see us, and that has wonderful affects. So I have my place for now, but I worship Swami very imperfectly in separation. I think there will be some type of split in ISKCON in the near future between the total fanatics and the more liberal broad minded. Prabhupada wanted each temple to more or less autominous. Anyway we will see. There will be more and more different sects.

Thanks again Babhru for your kind words. I wish I was near you to offer dandavats and a bear hug. So many of our wonderful, loving devotee friends are scattered all over the planet, and I am bereft of their company. Seeing them is always a great joy at festivals. Krsna must have some plan for so many incredible human beings and devotees. Most of the devotees I know, including my wife and myself, are in the best part of their lives according to the time periods of their astrology charts. Our generation of vanaprasthas and sannyasis will I am sure do something remarkable and extrordinary. I don't forsee the limits of any institution stopping our contribution. Where the world is uncertain and in turmoil, the fruits of years of devotional service and Prabhupada sakti are being unleased. I feel it, and see it. The mystery is only in what shape it will manifest. How can we live without optimism in the possible. We constantly pray for Divine Grace and inspiration, and no small part of that is Audarya, or the mercy of Lord Chaitanya. That is why we are present here!

Babhru Das - December 4, 2004 10:04 pm

I understand well the feeling of being between two worlds from my years in San Diego. And I understand that feeling of punishment, too, being out in the middle of the ocean. (I have to admit that I'm here because I wanted to be, but I should have tried harder for a job at Santa Rosa's community college.) I see it as a part of the plan for increasing my hankering to a fever pitch. Many devotees here would be happy if Maharaja could come to visit, but the collective desire isn't strong enough yet to draw him here.

It would be nice if there were more unity, but I think further fragmentation of ISKCON is most likely. Even some of its leaders, including one serving as a guru, have mentioned that they may have to find other company if things in ISKCON don't change drastically. Efforts such as Karnamrita and Archana-siddhi's offer great hope.

Jagannatha - December 5, 2004 12:26 am

I am grateful to be a new member of this "digital" spiritual community. I left Krsna consciousness for a number of years, and when I returned I was amazed to see some changes that have come along with this new century. Being able to correspond via email is wonderful, and being able to associate with devotees all over the world is incredible. I recently discovered Krsna radio on the Internet and can stay virtually plugged in 24/7!

Thank you to Swami and the devotees in this community. For those of us who decided to take the "scenic route" (which is not very scenic at all, it turns out), it's heartening to find devotees who are not only still practicing Krsna consciousness, but who are willing to go deeply, and to share what they find.

I posted my bio today, and look forward to exploring the discussions on this site.

Hari bol!

Narada-kunda Dasi - December 6, 2004 11:01 am

Just to echo the feelings of separation -- I'm actually in Europe... The time I spent in America was prior to taking up Krishna consciousness. The SF stood for "Sunday Feast", not San Francisco, sorry! No wonder it didn't tally with patriarchal, etc. :) Europe is really very different...

I've also always been aggrieved at being far from those who inspire me and in close physical proximity with those who kind of discourage me in different ways, but two examples have given me strength:

Narottam das Thakur, who missed the entire boat of Mahaprabhu's lila, and the gopis who were forcibly detained by their husbands upon hearing the call of Krishna's flute. Narottam was nevertheless very much blessed by Mahaprabhu, and the gopis also used the situation to let go of their last vestiges of material attachment.

Often I also take heart in the situation of Haridas Thakur -- how he stayed home since, due to material considerations, he was not respected or allowed entry at the temple, but then Mahaprabhu would come to him...

In retrospect, during moments of clarity when my heart is softened by the Lord's mercy, I see why things have to be the way they are. Then I recall that Krishna really is my best friend who has everything under control.

Having said that, the feeling remains anyway...

Thank you everyone for sharing yours.

Kamalaksa Das - December 7, 2004 8:54 pm

Dear devotees.

I added a very long profile. Read at own risk.

Kamalaksa

Karnamrita Das - December 8, 2004 2:33 am

Kamalaksa Prabhu: Thanks for sharing your story in the profile section. Yes Krishna has his ways of pulling us into his loving network. Many devotee stories have the similar component that the master trickster, the butter thief, has tricked us into becoming a devotee. Like, Swami says on many CD's, the holy name has an agenda, and we are on it. Now he has us, and we are amazed. Our reasoning cannot quite figure it out. Anyway, welcome. I have heard the Finland CD's and appreciated the sound of the crowd there and Swami's wonderful talks. The audience is at least 50%, so you must have inspired him.

I was wondering if devotees on Tattva viveka would like to post a picture of themselves in their profile. I certainly don't want to make anybody uncomfortable if they do not like to display their sadhaka-deha, but I like to get an idea of who I'm hearing from - place a face to a name. C'mon, don't be shy. The process is not that hard, but let someone know if you can't figure it out (I'll try to help anybody I can).

Fred, is there a way to have the upload process minimize one's picture to the proper size for those who don't know how to do it themselves?

Say--how did you do that (the exclamation points)? I've often wondered about that, question marks, "enyes," and acentos.

Syamasundara - October 13, 2005 9:58 am

Hehehe you need to jiggle with the keyboard. The american keyboard software may contain all those symbols, you need to learn the keystrokes. For example, on my iBook with an Irish keyboard ñ is option N+N, etc.

At any rate, welcome Jim and family. Looking forward to seeing your picture. I wonder how many people espeak espanish here.

Haribol, Elijah, and welcome! I hope you find this helpful to your search. Do you live in DC proper, or in the suburbs? I spent my adolescent years in Northern Virginia, about a mile from Mount Vernon. That was a long time ago, and the area was very heavily forested then. I imaging it's quite different now.

Please don't be shy; the mood here is very familiar, as I'm sure you'll see.

i live in DC proper. right by howard university.

That's awesome. :( Maybe you can tell us a little about how it was living there.

Krsna-rati, it was great to meet you while you and your family were at audarya. I was wondering if you had chanchal & pushpa's info? I live up the hill from pushpa's school and thought it would be nice if i could sometimes be in touch with them. Thanx.

Bhrigu - September 7, 2006 12:14 pm

Haribol Krishna-rati! You can read about the meaning of Tattva-viveka in Swami's svagatam (welcome) post under this same svagatam svagatam - heading. And at least on my computer (I use Firefox for browsing the web) I just need to left-click once on the smilies immediately to the left of the box where I write this text. This one is the first (top left) :P and this one the last (bottom right) ;) . And yes, more smilies would be nice!

Pranams! My name is Niscala and I am from Australia. Robert Newman is a good friend of mine. I've been involved in various forums like Chakra and Saragrahi. Since I am now reading Swami's gita and finding it very profound, I thought it would be a good idea to get involved with this forum, as I might learn something more.

Babhru Das - January 11, 2007 1:28 pm

Welcome, Joseph! It's good to have you here. I missed your joining because I was travelling in California. Actually, I was at Audarya the day you joined.

There are some devotees in Pecos. I don't have a good sense from looking at Google Earth how close that is to you (I live on an island). The center is being developed by my godbrother Hamasavatar das and his wife Yogamaya, who is a disciple of our Swami. They have a Web site at http://www.vedicworld.org/home.html.

Welcome, Madhumangala! I hope that you will enjoy what you find here on Tattvaviveka.

Syamasundara - March 7, 2007 3:59 pm

Dear Madhumangala, you are very welcome here. Jaya Jagannatha!

What a nice and touching story. When I read about the "care package" that contained Swami's books I both laughed and weeped. What a nice friend. That's the proof that sincerity is invincible. In my life I never had such trying experiences, but I was also at a loss at some point as far as Iskcon and finding a guru. I remember once paying dandavat to the murti of Srila Prabhupada and asking him: "Please recommend me to your best disciple" and here I am.

How did you get to serve Jagannatha if you got second initiation only later? I also have a soft spot for Jagannatha. Just yesterday a devotee called me after years out of the blue, to go work with her in Puri, but I had to decline...

Hopefully I will meet you at next SF Ratha Yatra.

Gaurangi-priya Devi - March 7, 2007 5:51 pm

Welcome Madhumangala! I just read your profile, and it's so nice to have you here. Somehow when we hit rock bottom, Krsna sends the perfect guide to lift us up and encourage us. Swami has been that for many of us. He once told me that when Sri-Guru enters your life, Krsna is turning His special attention to you. Welcome to the Tattva-vivek family!

Madhumangala Dasa - March 7, 2007 6:02 pm

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome. :)

That Ratha Yatra was quite an experience. I had been training as pujari but haven't taken second yet to actually perform the service myself. I was trying to connect with my diksa guru to take second but we just couldn't hook up, at that time he was spending alot of time in the Balkans. So I was on a road trip and we were in Virginia and on a whim decided to drive up to NYC for Ratha Yatra. The crowds were amazing. I prayed to Lord Jagannatha for a "special blessing" that day. I was helping to get the chariots ready, and with the last minute details and touch-up's, checking the wheels, the pulleys and ropes, making sure that everything was secure, etc... Soon it was almost time to start and I really wanted to get on that chariot so I invoked the mischievous energy of my namesake and went for it. I offered to carry a case of water onto the chariot, everyone was rushed and busy getting ready that they didn't even notice me. I hung out in the back very quietly and doing my best to busy myself, holding my breath and trying to be as invisible as I could, next thing I knew the ladders were being taken down and we were moving! Everybody just assumed that I belonged there, lol! I didn't bother correcting them. I watched the pujaris and assisted them when the needed something handed to them. They were so confused, it was wonderful... lol! During the procession one of the ties that was securing Lord Jagannatha broke so I was able to offer him direct service by personally supporting and securing him on his chariot. Hours later the procession ended, I looked at Lord Jagannatha and thanked him for allowing me such a wonderful blessing by allowing me to "stowaway" on his chariot and serve him. I saw that huge smile on his face and gave him a big hug, took a flower from off his turban and exited the chariot. When I got back on the ground I was getting some very strange looks from some of the others who were there as to say "and who are you?" so I thought it best at that point to say good-bye and walked away. So that's how I got to ride on Lord Jagannatha's chariot for NYC Ratha Yatra. LOL!

I would love to come to SF for Ratha Yatra there. I just might show up, who knows? Here in New Orleans we do our Ratha Yatra on Mardi Gras day and their Lordships ride in one of the biggest parades in town. All the devotees from the temple and farm participate, we do harinam and ride on the chariot and throw beads and flowers and incense and give out stickers of their Lordships, this year we roasted peanuts and passed thousands of bags out to the crowds. It was so much fun!

Hare Krsna!

Syamasundara - March 7, 2007 7:45 pm

Wow, that's laulya... you're in the right place.

I surprised myself reading this story with the sweetened eyes of a mother watching her child. You got a lot of mercy with yoga-maya's help; I don't know about snatching the flower, though. He could have given it to you, like he did with Bimala Prasada.

Babhru Das - March 8, 2007 3:12 am

I'm happy to see you here, Madhumangala! Welcome, and we look forward to your participation once you've gotten a feel for the tenor of the board.

Jason - March 9, 2007 5:52 am

Madhumangala,

I very much appreciated your story. My parents live in Lafayette, a bit west of New Orleans. My mother is a doctor and has seen a lot since the hurricanes. They did a lot of relief work for those who lost everything and traveled west in the aftermath. It's taken it's toll on my mother so they are moving back to the east coast this summer. Maybe we'll meet at Ratha yatra! Welcome!

Take care,

Jason

I also can't wait to begin exploring the existing forums and threads in the evenings -- and at work, whenever possible : )

Hari boool!

Great bio. Sometimes I almost wish I didn't know GM or Sridhara Maraharaja, just to feel those emotions you describe one more time. I mean, the emotions are there always, and they get renewed at every occasion, but it's not quite like getting in touch with them for the first time. I kind of get used to the nectar or something, which I hate. Now that I've been exposed to this brand of nectar for some time, I only realize how lucky I am when I take part in krsna-katha elsewhere and everyone just falls short.

In this regard it would be helpful to all concerned for members to write something about themselves in the personal profile section. I think that there is plenty of room there to write a short bio, etc.

I am looking for truth and guidance. Finally I met swami after a 63 year life of working as Med DR

Syamasundara - October 2, 2007 11:07 pm

Welcome Sjef and Rasikananda! Way to go re: the personal notes in the profile.

I thank to Gurunistha Prabhu and Gauravani Prabhu for allowing me to join the circle of dear friends and disciples of Swami Tripurari. I'm looking forward to serve you through reading these wonderful topics and meeting with you all. It's a very beautiful day today.

Always at your service,

I rather like them, too. And right now they're trying hard to get me to Audarya. However, Zvnonimir, nothing is impossible for them. When they want, they'll surely go to visit Oz and, I hope, take me with them (and maybe Swami, too!). There's another devotee there who'd like to meet them, too. So we look forward to your invitation some day.

so, please bear with me as i move in slowness out of personally acquired qualifications ... and, at looong last, i am sensing that ''home'' is on the horizon .. :Whew: . ombhurbhuvahsvah ... like an excited child, i have a LOT to say of my own long and winding road ... !! profile forthcoming ...

I just read your profile and I was wondering why you only talked about your interests and not your past, until I noticed that the space where everyone has been writing how they came here, actually reads: "Interests"....

Still, it would be nice if you added your history, too. If I may suggest one thing, I'd keep a more synthetic and linear English, as there are a lot of ESL (English as Second Language) members here from all over the world.

Oh, and picture! For the physiognomic freaks like me...

Thanks and welcome again.

Syamasundara - April 8, 2008 11:58 am

Welcome to Bhakta Wil, too! Hard to keep up here...

BTW, I am welcoming everybody on behalf of the prominent devotees in this forum, not as one of them; don't be fooled! It's just that I am always logged on here and check in frequently. My laptop is my teddy bear and source of association, and I just happened to wake up half an hour ago, because my iTunes was reciting prayers from the SB a little too loud...

Babhru Das - April 8, 2008 4:10 pm

Wil's here, at last! Welcome! I've been corresponding with Wil for a couple of months, since a class I gave in Alachua. I've enjoyed his candor and maturity in our correspondence.

Wilfredo Flores - April 8, 2008 11:20 pm

Hare Krsna Prabhu Babhru,

Thank you and Guru Maharaja for inviting me to this sanga. I'm very excited about being here. Of course always filled with gratitude toward all Vaishnava.

All Glories to Gaura Hari,

All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Just to inform you, I have finally updated my profile. It is quite long ... apologies. I am not very computer-savvy and so my attempts to upload a picture have so far been unsuccessful ... I will get some help. Nitai Gaura Premanande !

I liked the I Ching story, but I was surprised by how absent and anonymous your "zonal" guru comes across in the story.

I wish you to find peace and and direction in the rest of your life.

you are very perceptive, prabhu ... i accept your kind well-wishes for peace and direction on my head... just exactly my biggest challenges; two facets of the same problem ... now being exposed in a forum where i am hopeful of progress in that area by the kind consideration of compassionate devotees who have the favor of Sri Hari ... I seek the medicine for my as yet undigested anarthas ... there's been so much stagnation and frustration without (my perceiving or following of the) clear course for conclusive resolution (though no doubt some significant intermittent progress). deserved or not, i want to find my way through and be free from whatever self-defeat defaults i have amassed.

i guess the anonymity stems from a kind of 'gun-shy' complex of my own ... until i feel more ''at home'' to fully expose aspects of innermost difficulty (at least some of which i likely hide from myself)

Welcome shree krsna. Can you please tell something about yourself in your profile.

Brian Peterson - April 19, 2008 9:04 pm

Greetings!

I am new to the forum. I was introduced to the writings/work of Swami Tripurari through some friends and am very excited to chat with and get to know people on the forum.

As my profile indicates, I've been a long time spiritual "searcher" but have come to really admire/adore the concept of bhakti, which I feel is present within all of us, regardless of spiritual preference. However, I am looking to find a spiritual community in which I feel comfortable.

Please feel free to drop me a line and I will try to add to some of the progressing discussions.

Take care,

Brian

Syamasundara - April 20, 2008 12:52 am

Thrilled to have you here. :)

I am going to have to change my ideas about these punk rock devotee groups, since my two top favorite god-brothers come from there, and now you.

Not sure what you meant by chat, but my contact info is at the end of my profile.

Gaura bhakta vrnda ki jaya!

Don't forget the picture...

Madan Gopal Das - April 20, 2008 11:20 am

Hey Brian!

The Sanga call is a great way to get some regular association with Swami and hear his explanations "live". Just thought to mention this if you haven't been told about it already. link

Lukasz - May 10, 2008 5:10 pm

Haribol!!

Dear devotees! This is my first post on this forum. My name is Lukasz, I`m 25 years old, I`m form Poland. I aspire to be dosciple of Guru Maharaja, who kindly allowed me to join this forum. Because I have very little knowledge yet I will not write much trying rather to hear from you.

I would like to introduce myself little bit... I got in touch with Gaudiya Vaisnavism when I was 11 and about Guru Maharaja`s teachings I learned 3 years ago. I had some questions that bothered my mind and devotee trying to help me gave me e-mail to Gaura-sakti who is Guru Maharaja`s disciple and whom probably some of you know. Gaura told me about Guru Maharaja`s teachings and what he told made a great impression in my heart. Fram that time slowly, step by step I`m trying to follow Guru Maharaja and his disciples. Last year I was fortunate to meet Guru Maharaja personaly in Finland and have his association. I join this forum with desire to learn from you how to follow Guru Maharaja.

Please accept my obeisances

Lukasz

Devyah-pati Das SERBIA - January 4, 2009 11:50 am

Haribol to all!

I started to practice bhakti yoga in 1987. After few years of

book distribution in Italy and in Sweden I returned to Serbia

(where I am from), and I was singing in Nityananda Band,

in concerts, public programs and on Sunday feast programs.

I got iniciated by Harikesa Swami in 1991. After he left I felt

free to deliberate a little on whom to choose as my guru.

In 1999. I went to India, got in contact with Srila Tripurari

Maharaj and became very inspired with him. Since my

spiritual life had many ups and downs it took me a long time

to establish again contact with him, and I did it in 2003.

After that I got some health problems, and now I am again

getting in contact with His Divine Grace, his mission and

his disciples.

I pray for the mercy of all the members of this forum

that they may bless me so that I become a useful member

of this forum and Tripurari Maharajas preaching mission.

Your servant,

Devyah-pati das,

Amanda - June 10, 2009 10:21 pm

Hari-bol everyone!!

My name is Amanda and I have in association with devotees for about 15 years. In the past couple of years I have been very disappointed in the current mood of ISKCON. Currently, I have been very moved by Maharaj's message and it has brought my spiritual life to new heights!!! Coming across his site has been true blessing!! Right now I am a senior at Texas Woman's University earning my degree in speech and language pathology with a concentration in pediatrics. I love working with children and know that Krsna has blessed me with this gift. I have one more year to go before I graduate and then I plan on attending grad school.

I am happily married to an artist who is a student at the same university. He was raised in a Christian home so KC is a little different for him but, he is very supportive. We spent last weekend listening to Maharaj's lectures that are posted on line. He enjoys vedic art very much. He is a kind soul and with him I have no idea where I would be today without his support.

I am actively reading Maharaj's works in between my studies at the university. In the future I plan to travel to California and have association with all of you kind devotees.

In loving service,

Amanda

Guru-nistha Das - June 13, 2009 4:02 am

Welcome, Amanda!

Thank you for sharing your story of your involvement in bhakti. I hope you'll find this forum a good tool to deepen your study and understanding of Maharaja's words (although it seems like a lot of action has moved on to the Harmonist...)

Nice to have you here.

Jesse - June 22, 2009 10:57 am

Hare Krishna, everyone.

My name is Jesse. I'm thirty and live in Tucson, AZ, with my wife. She's a nursing student (almost done, thank God), and I work for Trader Joe's. I used to be a high school teacher, but the public school system in AZ leaves a lot to be desired. Fortunately, grocery is a pretty good fit and turned out to be fairly lucrative.

I updated my profile to include a short bio, so that's in there. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Be well,

Jesse

So, I'm pretty new here and with Bhakti, but both will change with time. I updated my profile so there's at least some basic information, do ask if you wish to find out more. Glad to be here and especially to be part of this community :)

It's snowing here in Finland, everything's white and the coldness outside gives a perfect reason just to cuddle up in a warm blanket and just stay there until at least one book and a few mugs of tea has passed.

Dandavat pranam to the respected assembly of vaishnavas!

By Krishna's mercy, after some years of no Internet activity, I am back in the cyberworld, and especially glad to be back on tattva-viveka!! In the meanwhile I've gotten married, dropped out of law school, given birth to three boys, moved house (and town) a few times, and finally kind of settled down in natural surroundings.

I'm happy to see that Audarya is truly flourishing. It's a deserved success because it is founded on genuine bhakti. All the good souls who have come into contact with it are very fortunate.

I look forward to your association.

Welcome, Acyuta! I'm delighted to see you (and your) post up here on Tattva-viveka. It's a small world indeed, and I'm also happy to reconnect with you after so many years (you know me as "Ken" from Pyari Mohan & Jivanausadi's programs in Hartford.) No doubt you will find this Board stimulating, especially if you're already enjoying The Harmonist and Swami's books & lectures. Please allow me to congratulate you, albeit belatedly, as I understand you have married since we last met. Hope to see you again. -Kanailal dasa

Kanailal! Great to hear from you. Are you still in the _greater_ Hartford area? I'm in Toronto now. And, yes, married (and just over a month away from a new baby). I'm happy we've crossed paths here online, and I hope we can do so in person some time too.

Sanatana Goswami Das - March 10, 2013 11:52 pm

Haribol esteemed Vaisnavas. Although I gained entrance into this forum last year I have not participated, so now I would like to briefly introduce myself. I currently live, by the grace of Guru Maharaja, in Madhuvana with my wife Namaruci. We are very happy here rendering some menial seva to the devotees and Sri DaujiGopala. We are both diksa disciples of Srila Radhanatha Maharaja and have spent more than twelve years serving in different temples in Iskcon. However, by the way that society is set up it was most difficult to have much personal exchange with our diksa-guru. After years of eagerly praying for a close relationship and service to a sadhu of our guru-varga, I was most fortunate to become attracted to the classes and writings of Guru Maharaja, Srila Tripurari Maharaja. Of course, you all know how fortunate and grateful I feel. I have already met many of you and look forward to meeting the rest of you. Sri Caitanya Sangha is a very sweet, dynamic place to be! Haribol!

Madan Gopal Das - March 11, 2013 12:20 am

Look forward to meeting you Sanatana Goswami, and hope to hear from you here on T.V.

Kalpataru Dasa - March 12, 2013 7:58 am

Sanatana Goswami - as we both shared our first meeting with Guru Maharaja (you were actually the first devotee I meet on the day of my first retreat with Swami), I'm so happy that your heart got stolen away, as did mine:) Hope to see you again, brother, I miss your mellow and playful company (and your British sens of humor;)).

Dave Salyers - March 23, 2013 11:55 pm

Hare Krishna!

I'm new to the Sri Caitanya Sangha and the teachings of Swami B.V. Tripurari. I'm 44 years of age and have been married for 17 years to my wife Sharon (we've been together for 25 years if you include when we dated). We have two kids - our daughter Amara who is 15 and our son David who is 13.

I have worked professionally in the field of social work for the past 17 years.

Currently we live on 5.5 acres in the rural outskirts of Tehachapi in California (in the mountain area of Kern County in between Bakersfield and Lancaster/Antelope Valley high desert area). Generally since I have not lived near a compatible community of Vaishnavas I have gotten some supportive community at Unitarian Universalist churches (there is a UU Hindu interest group online where we have been discussing Swami Tripurari's writings), Unity churches, or other spiritually progressive communities when available especially for activities for the kids.

I first read the Bhagavad Gita in high school. I grew up very near to Little India in Artesia. I also read the Upanishads, Qur'an, and other spiritual works. I have been a spiritual seeker since a youth (I was raised up Mormon but was not a good fit for that faith).

Welcome David! Browse around the forum, there is lots of good stuff here. Feel free to ask questions philosophical or practical; we're glad to have you here!

I am also a social worker in mental health here in NC. :)

Jagadananda - April 6, 2013 10:30 pm

I am Jagadananda Gauranga Dasa, and live in Kentucky. I first encountered Vaisnavism through ISKCON, eventually received first and second initiation from Bhaktiratna Sadhu Swami, and quickly found myself orphaned. I'd rather not go into any details on that. I found HDG Tripurari Swami by chance, looking through videos online. From the moment I first heard his discourse I was stunned. It was as if someone led me to him, and I just simply felt my bhakti revived and enlivened. I hope to sit at his lotus feet eventually as his disciple, by Krsna's grace. Hare Krsna!

Welcome! Glad you made it here!

Nama Rasa Das - March 5, 2014 9:49 am

Hare Krishna everyone, my name is Nama Rasa das. I attended the Govardhan puja festival in Saragrahi last year with my good friend, Krsna Nama. It was wonderful. I have been perusing these message boards on my free time at work, and it's very interesting, to say the least.

The critical stuff about ISKCON is a slight turnoff, since my experience of ISKCON has probably been vastly different than most on this forum, but granted, everyone has their experiences and points of view, and I respect that.

I'm trying to go to Poland this coming July for Swami's retreat, since its quite close to the UK, where I am currently based.

Swami - March 5, 2014 10:17 am

Welcome Nama Rasa das. I hope you do come to Poland. Among other reasons, I need a good kirtaneer to assist me. :)

Hare Krishna!

By way of introduction, my name is Anuj Ghai and I am currently pursuing my legal studies in the U.K. I was born and brought up in the U.K and have recently completed undergraduate and graduate studies at two London-based universities. I was first introduced to Chaitanya Vaishnavism ('CV') by my Aunt and Uncle (initiated disciples of H.H Satsvarupa Maharaja) but have since found my own understanding and experience of CV develop most effectively as a result of reading Guru Maharaja's books and articles and listening to his lectures. I hope to be able to meet Guru Maharaja in the flesh, so to speak, sometime in the near future but until then pray that I can continue my exposure to his remarkable contributions. Incidentally, I have had the good fortune of meeting Sanatana Goswami Das and have found him to be a delightfully kind and compassionate devotee.

Welcome Anuj! I hope you get to meet Guru Maharaj soon as well!

Welcome, Anuj! Great to have you here.
