At 8:30 on Thursday evening, we noticed that Raga had not eaten her hay. By 8:45 p.m. we were pretty sure that she was in labor because she was restless. The two stages of labor can take 8 hours or more, so we prepared for a long night. By 9:00 p.m., however, she was laying down and in heavy labor. About ten minutes later, the calf’s lotus feet made their appearance, by the grace of Sri Sri Krsna-Balarama they were in the proper position, meaning that it was not a breach birth. Soon the calf’s head was visible, still in the sac. I was in a mild panic because you couldn’t tell whether the calf was alive. At approximately 9:30 the calf emerged in a big whoosh. It is a critical time in which the calf must start breathing immediately. Citta Hari cleared the nasal passages and tickled the calf’s nose as everyone held their breath waiting for the calf to take its first breath. After some intense seconds, the calf took its first breath and we stood in awe of Audarya’s beautiful first calf. It was overwhelmingly amazing, almost unreal.
After resting for about five minutes, Raga began intently licking the calf, and within 45 minutes the calf was taking its first steps to the cheers of everyone. It is important for the calf to start milking within an hour after birth, so we were concerned as that time drew near. We decided to help the calf find the teats, and after a few false starts, it successfully found a nipple and began sucking with vigor. We let out a round of “Jaya” and “Hari Bol,” secure now that everything would be OK.
We still didn’t know if the calf was a boy or girl, although we suspected from the fine hump that it was a boy. Sure enough, it was a bull calf. Guru Maharaja decided on the name Mohan, enchanting. We were all totally enchanted by the amazing little fellow. It was an incredible experience.
So everyone please welcome Audarya’s newest member, Mohan. He is stealing everyone’s heart already.
Picture 1: Mohan first emerges.

Ah, yes--the obligatory tushie shot! Parents seem unable to avoid this. (And we're all glad they can't.)
Sensing that he is getting a worldwide following, Mohan climbed on Mommyji for this shot.

Thanks for posting all of the pics Vrindaranya. Mohan is such a cutie. And what an enchanting name... pun intended
It is wonderful to see the flood of affection coming from all of the devotees. Gives me a sense of what cow protection is all about.
Oh, he's so sweet, I like the pink lower lip.
Soon he'll be stepping everywhere leaving his hoof prints in the mud during this rainy season, and all the Audarya visitors will be reminded of the Bhagavatam and Sri Guru.
I remember when Dharma and Bhumi were two little fellows, the reminder was constant every day.
I am talking about this sloka that I could luckily retrieve on the internet:
samasrita ye pada-pallava-plavam
mahat-padam punya-yaso murareh
bhavambudhir vatsa-padam param padam
padam padam yad vipadam na tesam
“For one who has accepted the boat of the lotus feet of the Lord, who is the shelter of the cosmic manifestation and is famous as Mukunda, or the giver of mukti, the ocean of the material world is like the water contained in a calf’s footprint. param padam, or the place where there are no material miseries, or Vaikuntha, is his goal, not the place where there is danger in every step of life.”
-Syamu
Hehe he's really adorable, I feel like exploding but I'm in a cyber cafe.
Just see, there was a whole page #2 of this forum that I had missed, and there was mention of the pink lip and the hoof!
How sweet Mohan is! Thank you so much for the pictures, Vrindaranya! Laura and I are overwhelmed with happiness.
MORE PICTURES, PLEEEEEEASE
Haribol, wonderful news! Mohan is very beautiful. Congratulations!
Jahnavi, Australia
that little baby absolutely stole my heart. i'll send my all my love to him!!
More pictures, please, Vrindaranya! Laura pesters me to log into Tattvaviveka all the time in hope of new pictures of Mohan. I am also curious about the milk Raga is giving. How much do you get? Is there enough for Gaura-Nitai and all of you, or do miniature Zebus give just a little bit of milk?
We've been getting a couple of cups a day for Gaura-Nitai and the rest has gone to Mohan. Raga's yield is supposed to increase after a week or two. We think she produces about 8-16 cups (1 gal) a day. We're still working out our milking technique and schedule.
Yesterday Mohan was sparring a bit with Seva and even holding his own. He is so healthy.
Any more Mohan (or as my daughter Lalasamayi calls him, Moo-han) updates befre you-all take off?
Right, we're starving here...
Movie of Mohan jumping around.
Look at him go!
ADORABLE!!!!
wow! What an energetic lad he is!
I am looking forward to seeing him pretty soon
JAY!!!!

guru-nistha is just sitting by me and is saying:"IM GONNA SEE MOHAN SOON!!!"
hopefully mohan will teach some of those cool jumps to GN!!!
Today is Mohanji Lal's three-week birthday. There has been a lot of rain at Audarya, so he has been trapped in the barn. Because he can't run around, he spontaneously hops in the barn. When the rain stops for a bit, we let him outside and the fun begins. He runs back and forth, back and forth, and sometimes all the way around the temple and back at break-neck speeds. Sometimes he jumps and kicks his little hind hooves in the air. It is hilarious.
