How to copy text...

Jason - May 14, 2005 12:10 am

I often want to use someone's quote in my posts, and can't figure out how to use that feature. I'm not incredibly computer literate. Could someone tell me how to use it?

Thanks,

Jason

P.S. Will anyone be going to Audarya for Nrsimha Caturdasi?

Haribol Jason,

Each post in a thread has a line of buttons at the bottom. For example, you should see + QUOTE and " REPLY buttons at the bottom right hand corner of this post.

If you would like to reply and quote a particular post, just click the REPLY button, which will automatically put the post in quotes and let you type a response.

If you would like to quote more than one post, clicking on the + QUOTE (which turns it into a - QUOTE) will allow you to select multiple posts. Once you have the posts selected that you would like to quote, clicking on ADD REPLY at the bottom of the last post on your screen will allow you to type a response along with all of the posts you selected as quotes.

A third option is to just click ADD REPLY. From the next screen you can see most of the thread at the bottom and you can copy and paste text from there into the "Enter your Post" box. (On the PC you can select text and right-click to copy and paste.)

Then within the "Enter your Post" box, you can select some text, then click on the white QUOTE button (above the box where you type a message) and it will generate the quote code around the text you selected.

Feel free to pratice quoting this message if you would like :D

Let me know if this helps.

Ys,

Fred

I still don't get it?

What if I just want to quote a particular segment of another post. Do I need to highlight that part and then click, "Quote"

Each option I try just puts the entire post into my reply, which isn't what I want to do???

Ex: what are you going to do to respond to this post and "quote" just the "I still don't get it"

Sorry for the inconvenience,

Jason

Jason,

First make sure your clicking the REPLY button with the quote mark next to it located as part of the persons board entry, like this:

screenshot1.jpeg

and not the one at the end of the thread with the little plus sign/peice of paper looking icon.

Then you should come to a window similar to this:

screenshot.jpeg

To only quote a particular area select/remove any text that is inside the braceted word quote and where the Quote ends which is noted by bracets and a / before the word quote at the end of the quoted text. Then it should look like this:

Add whatever you have to say below the quoted text and you should be good to go.

I'm hoping the attachments work and that hopefully i've helped more than i've hurt :D
