Context in the sanga CDs

Syamasundara - November 22, 2005 1:21 am

OK I cheated, this is no announcement, but something that's been on my mind for four years.

Am I the only one who would appreciate if on the Sanga CDs there was a month/year feature like on the magazines?

It would just be enough to put the month around the center, maybe opposite the copyright. Right now I can't really list the advantages of this, but I did find myself on many occasions in which I wished I could tell which CD was which.

If it was for me I wouldn't mind if at the beginning of the CDs a voice said: "The following is a lecture given by H.H. Swami Tripurari in such&such place at such&such time," like in the well-known SP tapes.

It's endearing and helps the listener feel there.

Then again maybe it's just me.

I'd like to know what the other think.

I've often wondered about the where and when and thought something like this would be nice. Sometimes it's obvious from the outset, because of the title ("Talk at Mandala,"), and sometimes we find out in the course of the talk (in "Be Like Water," for example, we find out that he's at Navayauvana and Manjari's place at MVT when Manjari walks in and expresses her surprise at seeing Swami there). But sometimes a little context would be nice. I don't know what that would take on the Audarya end . . .

I agree with Syamasundara and Babhru. I think that at least the date and location of the talks should be marked on the CD. That shouldn't be too hard to do.

I agree with you, but not on you agreeing with me, in that I was talking of two different things:

both what you are talking about (time and place relative to the content of the CD) and the month of issue of the CDs, i.e. for the sake of collection, it would be nice to know which 4 are the february CDs, which the march ones etc; you may notice u are missing one etc...

Assigning unique number to the CD would help to organize things. For example: CD000001 recorded in suchandsuch place at suchandsuch date, title suchandsuch, published January 2005.

You don’t have to list all of the details on the CD itself accept the unique number and title of the lecture; details can be published on the website.

Hmm, good points. It might be a problem to always fit the location where the lecture took place, because designwise, the only reasonable place for it would be under or above the date, and sometimes the titles are so long that I'd have to really squeeze all the texts... I'll try out on the next CDs and we'll see how you like it... although on next month's CDs there won't be any long titles... oh well.

Giving the CDs a number is a good idea, too.. I'll talk with Vrindaranya and figure it out.

This idea could be expanded thus:

Suppose the 4 CDs for January 2006 are A, B, C and D. The 2xers (the subscribers who receive 2xmonth) will get only A and B, and the others all of them.

Around the center (can be done with Adobe Illustrator to mention one, the one Vrndaranya suggested when I brought this up 4 years ago but Icould never look into because I moved out shortly after) the serial number could be

for the CD A: 200601-2x1 or 200601-2xA

for the CD B: 200601-2x2 or 200601-2xB

for the CD C: 200601-4x3 or 200601-4xC

for the CD D: 200601-4x4 or 200601-4xD

Needless to say, the serial number stands for year and month of issue, type of subscription, plus a distinctive number or letter to recognize each one.

Then of course the list of all these serial numbers can be posted on a webpage and there some more info can be added as far as context (place and date of recording, important devotees present, etc), besides of course the information that already appears on the CD (SP avirbhava part 1 for instance).

What do you think?
