Haribol!

I listened to Swami's lecture on chanting the Lord's names and how it can cleanse the mind and help destroy the false ego, and I have to say I was very impressed. I really enjoyed how he quoted philosophers and referred to other spiritual traditions in his lesson. I can't wait to listen to more of his lectures.

I now feel inspired to chant more, but I'm not sure how to fit it into my schedule. I've been chanting four rounds per day faithfully for the past few months. This takes me an hour. I've read that once one becomes more purified and focused that each round should take approximately eight minutes. My mind constantly wanders, so it takes me twice as long per round. I know that speed is not the object, but I'd like to get to the point where I can fit more rounds in somehow.

Could some of you share your experiences as to how you were able to fit more chanting into your busy schedules? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

I personally have to getup earlier to have some time alone before everyone wakes up and do my 8 rounds (1 hour), then I do some more during commuting (40 min each way) and lunch (30 min). I'm sure it's quite doable to chant for 2 hours a day. Now, I understand that chanting during driving is not very productive and hardly can be considered to be dhyan, but I thought that it's better then listening to the light jazz.

Chanting is undeniably better that "light jazz" :D . I too have to chant a few rounds on my lunch break. Luckily, my office has plenty of quiet rooms to do so, where I don't get bothered. I guess it's really about learning how to adjust your schedule to find time (as bad as that sounds). I used to dislike getting up earlier than necessary to get to work in order to chant, but now I find that if I put it off...it's harder to do it later (too many things on my mind at the end of the day). The morning really is ideal; even if it is hard to do. It starts the day off on a better note for sure. The fact that you're steady with 4 rounds is great!

Hari Boll everybody.I would like to share my expierience about chanting The Holy Name.

At the moment I m not working so I have more time.Anyway I get up in the mornig about 5 am.

I do my japa about 8 rounds sometimes 16 ,it depends of my mood. After that I sing to my Govinda together with Guru Maharaj.

AAA I forgot ,before chanting I prayer to Guru Maharaj and via him to Radharani ,Lord Nitjanandy,Balaramy.I ask them for energy and taste to Holy Names. It takes few times. When I have time ,I read the Sri Chaitanya -Caritamrita between every 4 rounds. It gives me more inspiration and concentration.Sometimes I listen from mp3, how Guru Maharaj chanting.

It is true that at the end of the day my mind is not so free like in the morning. Then many thinks appear somewhere in the mind.

Sometimes I leave one round before going to sleep. Then my dream is better.I do not have so many disturbances during the night.I close my eyes.I say thanks for whole day and I imagine the pastime with Lord Caitanya in my mind then I sleep.:D

Hare Krishna,

Does anybody know where I can download this mp3 of Maharaj chanting japa? I don't seem to see it on the www.swami.org/downloads page.

Thanks,

This is 25 min japa recording I've found. The file will expire in 7 days. Maybe Gauravani can upload it into permanent location.

Where did this tape come from? I have always tried to avoid being taped chanting japa becasue it became a fad in Iskcon after Prabhupada departed to tape his successors.

It sounds very old. If there has to be a tape out and about of me chanting japa, I would prefer that someone record me here at Audarya.

Where did this tape come from?

The tape comes from the vintage tape archive and had been recorded in early nineties in Eugene. I’ve found it while doing digitalization. If you want, Guru Maharaja, I can remove mp3 from the download site, though personally I find listening to this recording quite inspiring.

I am going to remove the file from the downloads page. We will record Guru Maharaja chanting japa this week and post the new file.

We can do one here with cows in the background if you like.

Philip Breakenridge - August 27, 2006 2:27 am

That would be awesome! I can't wait to hear it. :(

It would be very nice, thank you. I've removed the link to the old recording.
