Happy birthday! Best wishes!

Vinode Vani Dasa - October 1, 2006 8:29 pm

Wow, you are all most kind. One of the great joys in my life is writing on this sanga, and I would like to thank you for tolerating my thoughts here. My purpose is only to learn from all of you.

I would also like to take this opportunity to announce the upcoming birth of our daughter, Amelie Diana Bartz, who is due December 20th!:Party::Praying:B)

Knowing that I am now bringing someone into this world has made me think very hard about what kinds of experiences I want her to have, and what kind of role I model I need to be for her. I don't know how I would be able to do this without some grounding in Krishna consciousness. My father left when I was eleven, and I haven't spoken to him in almost a decade (the last thing he told me is that he was embarassed that I am his son); also, as many of you know, my brother Yugala Kishora dasa (he was initiated by Guru Maharaja at the same time as me, and was the person who first interested me in Krishna consciousness) died several years ago from a drug overdose. I dropped out of high school when I was 16 to live in the temple, and in some ways transferred my need for a father onto Guru Maharaja. I know this has made things difficult for you Guru Maharaja, and it has to some extent complicated my relationship with Krishna consciousness, so it has taken me many years to really sort how I fit in with all of this. My chemical imbalance issues have not made things any easier, along with a tendency to intellectualize things to the point of absurdity. In any case, all of this is to let you all know how much I appreciate being here, and to let you know a little bit more about where I am coming from. Thank you so much for your kindness.

Thanks for your honesty and sharing with us about your life. It's nice to get to know devotees more on a personal level, even though it's sometimes hard on an on-line forum. It's great to have you on here. Keep up the thoughtful posts. And congratulations on the upcoming birth of your daughter. It will change your life in numerous ways, and you will never think about life in the same ways again. I'm sure you'll make a great role model, and enjoy being a father. It is very special having a daughter as a firstborn, I think, from my experience.

And, oh yea, Happy Birthday!!
